Meteor Crater, Arizona is the largest known site where a meteor from space landed on earth. It created a massive "explosion" and left a very large hole. As you can see by the pictures, if you're ever in Northern Arizona it is worth the stop to see for yourself and to learn all about it. Pictures can simply not do it justice.

Just off center in this photo you can see the work area and the main exploration shaft that NASA uses for testing and experiments. On the rim several telescopes are set up to see in better detail. Look around the main work area and see if you can see the 6 ft tall astronaut standing next to a full sized American flag! Meteor Crater 6.JPG (174154 bytes) The crater site has been preserved as much as possible and protected against errosion. Meteor Crater 7.JPG (164550 bytes) The six foot tall image of an astronaut as seen through the naked eye from the observation point.

Drew is having a blast! But then just about any 8 yr old would be in heaven here.
